We hope you are enjoying the summer and looking forward to the fall semester at the University of Tennessee! With this letter, we welcome you to the auditions for Bands and Orchestra, Fall 2024. Learning to audition is an important part of the educational process for every student. For you to maximize this opportunity, we expect you to prepare the audition material to the best of your ability (AUDITION ADVICE). Auditions will be heard by the instrumental conducting faculty and applicable studio faculty; hence, this process makes alternative audition times difficult to schedule. If it is impossible for you to make the assigned instrumental block, an approval must be made in advance of the audition day.
Please read the information thoroughly, and if you have questions, never hesitate to ask. For most woodwind and brass instruments, there are two sets of excerpts – see below – be sure to look at each packet and make sure you prepare the correct set:
-Excerpts for placement consideration in Wind Ensemble/Symphony Orchestra/Symphonic Band (one set of excerpts for all three of the above ensembles). **All music majors and non-majors receiving a band stipend must perform the WE/SO/SB excerpts.**
-Excerpts for placement in Concert Band only
-Strings for placement in Symphony Orchestra only
If you are a WW/Brass and desire to audition for both Band and Orchestra placement, you will have one audition during the assigned instrument block; please refer to the audition sign-up sheets when posted August 1.
