Undergraduate Non-Music Majors
February 18, 2023 • February 25, 2023
Live auditions for Non-Music Majors (including Color Guard) interested in band scholarships (stipends), as well as entrance into the band program will be held on the dates above in Knoxville, TN on The University of Tennessee Campus. If you are unavailable on these dates, please contact us to schedule an individual audition or submit a video audition as a YouTube link or Google Drive. To set up an audition date or submit a video audition, please contact the band office at 865-974-5031 or firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are currently a senior and will graduate this year, apply as early as you can to UT!! Applications are available on-line from the admissions office. The Admission Application Deadline for UTK is December 1 (November 1 for scholarship consideration).
For non-music majors, auditions are very simple! We just need to hear 2 contrasting excerpts (one technical and one lyrical). These can be out of a method book, excerpts from a solo piece, or music that you have used on prior auditions. There are NO scales and NO sight reading. We encourage everyone to try out for the Pride of the Southland, but if you are interested in concert ensembles only, then you will only need to audition for the bands during the first week of classes (not during the spring). You can find more information regarding our concert ensembles under the “current student” tab as we near the end of each semester.
Non-Major Percussionists, we would like to hear a snare solo (concert OR marching) and, if possible, a piece on mallets and/or timpani.
