Spring 2025 LARGE ENSEMBLE Audition Music

GENERAL INFORMATION

Auditions are held for all students who wish to perform in a concert ensemble during the spring semester (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and University Band). All students are placed in the appropriate ensemble by audition; the NEW University Band is reserved (primarily) for non-music major students with course conflicts OR music majors on secondary instruments. Below, is the necessary information regarding audition times and audition material. If you have questions please email Dr. Zastoupil: jzastoup@utk.edu.

            Wind Ensemble:             T/Th, 2:25 – 4:15pm

            Symphonic Band:           M/W/F, 12:40 – 1:30pm

            Concert Band:                 M/W/F, 12:40 – 1:30pm

University Band: M, 6:00 – 7:30pm


OPENINGS:

WIND ENSEMBLE:            There are openings in the clarinet and bassoon sections. Unless notified via email, current Wind Ensemble members do not re-audition.

SYMPHONIC BAND:        Open to all students by audition. All current Symphonic Band members will re-audition for placement.

CONCERT BAND:             Open to all students by audition. All current Concert Band members will re-audition for placement.

UNIVERSITY BAND:          Open to all students by audition.

OBOE
Select one or more Ferling etude/s of your choice representing your technical and lyrical playing. No more than 3 minutes total in length.

BASSOON
Select one or more etude/s of your choice representing your technical and lyrical playing. No more than 3 minutes total in length.

SAXOPHONE
Select one or more etude/s of your choice representing your technical and lyrical playing. No more than 3 minutes total in length. If excerpts are needed, contact Dr. Adams (aadams63@utk.edu)

TRUMPET

TROMBONE
Select one or more etude/s of your choice representing your technical and lyrical playing. No more than 3 minutes total in length.

EUPHONIUM/TUBA
Select one or more etude/s of your choice representing your technical and lyrical playing. No more than 3 minutes total in length.

PERCUSSION
Choose two solo works/etudes (concert literature or the like). One for snare and one for a mallet instrument. Music Majors may use their current lesson or solo material; Non-Music Majors may use the following two etudes: Percussion-S2025

Non-music majors, please contact Freddy Morales for access to instruments.


ONLINE SIGN UPS/AUDITION SUBMISSION DEADLINE

A recorded audition must be submitted as an uploaded video link, via YouTube or Dropbox, OneDrive, etc. Submissions must be received before 11:59 PM on November 26th, 2024.  Recorded audition files or links should be uploaded: https://forms.gle/NcrASWkKUqA1F2cz6

  • Total time should be no more than 3 minutes.
  • Before you play, state your name on the recording
  • Try to record the audition in a large space
  • Listen to/watch the recording before you send it to be sure everything recorded correctly. Make sure the link is viewable (ie, YouTube make it “unlisted,” Google Drive, make sure it is seen by anyone with link, etc.)
